Greetings from the Rocking Chair – December 2007

I am slowly moving into this “retirement” thing and am continuing to evaluate resources that can be useful to us as we prepare to enter that new chapter in our life or as we progress through that chapter.  It seems like there are so many things to investigate, so many things to reflect upon, and so many things that challenge us to stretch our minds that some times it is difficult to find adequate time.  It is truly amazing how one’s perspective changes from the daily “workforce” perspective.  I invite your comments and hopefully we will be able to encourage one another.

I am writing this while travelling to Iowa from Arizona through Texas and Oklahoma.  By the time we return home my wife and I will have traversed almost 4,000 miles and will have driven in 7 different states.  This naturally gives one time to reflect on life and what it means to us individually.   What was surprising to me was that even though this travel is at the end of November and the first part of December, we are not seeing a great number of individual homes decorated for the Christmas season.

Christmas has always been a time that brings a renewed hope for our world, our country, and our individual lives.  The festive symbols of the season, lively and reflective music, and fantastic smells of fresh baking have always had a way of brightening one’s spirit.  I trust that this observation while travelling was just a fluke and not representative of where we are as a society.

We have so much to be thankful for and so much to look forward to.

At this time of the year I want to point you to a web site that truly inspires me.  I don’t know the creator of the web site personally, but her creations are amazing and I trust you will enjoy them as much as I do.  I have to ask, What would Jesus Want this Christmas?
